Seventh Dutch Perl Workshop
Friday, 5th of March 2010, 9am-8pm
Hostel Stayokay Arnhem
IntroductionFollowing the successful workshops in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 we plan to apply the same proven formula once again in 2010. This formula means:
SpeakersThe program is ready, including 6 lightning talks for 40 minutes, so not really a lot of room for more. But it's never too early to start thinking about the next workshop! |

Who?
Everybody interested in Perl is welcome. The level of the presentations varies from beginner to expert level. However, the Dutch Perl Workshop is not an introduction day to Perl, you need to have at least some knowledge of Perl to be able to benefit from the workshop. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual, and there'll be lots of opportunity to ask experts for help. This seventh Dutch Perl Workshop is a great opportunity to extend your knowledge of Perl and to meet fellow Perl programmers. The breaks are just like "Meet the Monk" events, for example around the book table, during the long lunch, the dinner, or after the workshop while enjoying a beer or other spirits. Especially for those who've never got around to attending a meeting of the Amsterdam, Groningen, Brussels or Flanders Perl Mongers, this is a great opportunity to hear about the latest tricks, having that little missing piece of information explained better or to listen to a talk by their favourite Dutch Perl celebrity from close range. By Dutch Perl Mongers, for Dutch Perl Mongers. A day of informal and varied events, with lots of opportunity to make contact with fellow Perl users.Schedule
We're still in the process of We've finished putting together the program, and, as every year, there will be presentations on a wide range of topics, from object-oriented programming in Perl to working with databases. Most presentations will be given in Dutch, but there may also be some foreign speakers whose talks will be in English.Where?
As a venue we have again chosen the StayOkay Alteveer (formerly known as the youth hostel) in the northern part of Arnhem.Staying overnight is possible (at your own expense, even in the case of speakers). We have again booked a number of rooms specially for workshop attendees. For as long as we have beds available you can book them through us. This year the price is &euro 39.50 per person per night for a bed in double room.
Workshop fee
The fee for participation is very low indeed:
€ | 50 | for all speakers |
€ | 100 | for non-speakers coming from commercial companies |
€ | 75 | for non-speakers coming as private attendees |
(all prices incl. 19% VAT)
This fee includes lunch, dinner, tea, coffee, vlaai (!) and cookies. The number of attendees is limited to 60 (if it's sold out, we will go by the order of payment).
We thank our sponsors: it's thanks to them that the fee can stay low.
Rooms
As before, we have two rooms available, with overhead projectors and projection screens, and of course the central room with, among other things, the largest Perl library in Europe (more than 225 unique Perl titles, plus dozens of older editions). The central room can also be used for BoFs and tutorials for smaller groups (3 to 5 people).
Internet
We will again try to offer wireless internet access during the workshop.Regarding the internet connection, we ask everybody attending the workshop in the StayOkay hostel not to use the connection for heavy up- or downloads and we also ask Windows users to turn off automatic Windows updates.
