Perl has low visibility outside of the Perl community. The perception of Perl outside of our community matters when companies are deciding which languages to invest in, and programmers are choosing languages to learn. It is important for the future of Perl that it is seen as a vital, relevant language.

One way of enhancing our reputation involves promoting Perl through booths and talks at conferences which are not Perl-specific in order to inform people about how Perl can address their needs. This needs to be done at a local level, with support from an umbrella organization. Volunteers are needed to arrange booths, offer talks, translate marketing material, and brainstorm about how we can promote Perl.
